Got Dumped?

April 30th 2006 19:33
I was watching trash headline news today and one of the stories was a “relationships expert” grab about why people should end relationships their not completely happy with rather than staying with a partner to avoid an awkward break up. So the news item was a bit of a no brainer… “wow, this relationship is unfulfilling. Maybe I should have some balls and end it so both parties can move on to brighter things.” I still can’t believe people can spin a career out of dishing out common-bloody-sense. To motive those who want to avoid the fights and confrontation of breaking up, the reporter went on to say that emails are now an acceptable way to dump partners. This piece of advice made me do a total double take (which on a treadmill can be a particularly dangerous move). How can a responsible TV show encourage people to be so spineless. I started thinking about the worst ways people can get dumped. One of my friends ended a 5 year relationship via an sms message from her boyfriend. I thought that was pretty low, but getting dumped with an email would probably be equally bad. Here’s a list of some other bad, gutless methods of dumping,

1) Starting a fight and using it as an excuse to dump the partner.

Online Dating Disasters

April 28th 2006 04:21
I’ve always been skeptical of this whole online dating thing. I know its prudish and I suppose there’s no reason why you can’t meet the love of your life online. I guess I’ve just heard one too many horror stories. I found these two very different tales amusing.

Suh, who immigrated from Korea to the United States during his teen years, felt an immediate friendship connection with Yujin whom he met online. They spent a few months chatting online and on the telephone, in both Korean and English.

Another Runaway Bride

April 27th 2006 05:39
Last weekend hailed the annual London Marathon. Among the throng of costumed competitors were
Marathon wedding
Katie Austen and Gordon Fryer in full wedding attire. Halfway through the race, they took a breather and exchanged vows in what can only be described as a racey wedding. According to the Telegraph report,

"Miss Austin's parents, Tina and Bob, also ran and gave her away in the Bridge Master's dining room on Tower Bridge.

Men Don’t Want Funny Women

April 25th 2006 08:46
I found this article on the ABC website which I thought was pretty interesting. Basically it reports findings of a study conducted in North America, which suggest that a sense of humor in a partner is less important for men that for women. A group of women were shown a picture of two men, one with a serious profile and one with a humorous profile. Despite the women rating the humorous men as less trustworthy, honest or intelligent, the majority picked the funny profile over the serious profile. Even unsophisticated humor was preferred over the serious profile. The experiment was then reverse and tested on men. Conversely to the women, men chose the serious profile.

What can be gathered from this research???

Horrid Dates

April 24th 2006 00:12
We’ve all had them. I remember meeting a strapping lad at a final year high school party. Mr Popularity, a bit of a bad boy streak, an uber sexy scar, the life of the party type. With raging teenage hormones I could compare him to a prize winning bass. I’d didn’t know whether to take him home and eat him or mount him. When he asked me on a date the next weekend, the following Saturday couldn’t come quick enough.

So we meet at the teen faithful, Hoyts. Within five minutes it was apparent that Mr Fantastic was a “trekkie.” The day quickly decended into a soul scarring experience. We ended up watching Stargate and it must have been the 20th time he had seen it because every 2 minutes I was getting a poke in the ribs. Followed by an explanation of what was going to happen within the next 2 minutes.
He’d whisper with quivering excitement, “Look closely, they’re about the try and activate the Gate, but it won’t work. Its ok because they’ll get it fixed later.” Every moment meticulously dissected in my ear moments before its occurrence. ARGH, as if watching Stargate once wasn’t bad enough! This was the equivalent of watching it twice. If only he was speaking French, at least I could ignorantly comfort myself in the thought that he was describing how beautiful my hair was. Needless to say, there was no post cinematic kanoodling at Maccas.

I Love My Breasts

April 21st 2006 01:14
Some girls love shopping, others love day spas, some love their partner and others just love their breasts. My first reaction was to think you've reached a sad low in your life when your breasts become your best friend. However, for Jessica Simpson, after her recent split with Nick Lachey (funny until reently I always thought his name was the unglamourous nick Lackey) Jess has declared that her breasts are her best friend.

So Jess has told Heat Magazine that "I have amazing boobs. They’re just perfect." Which has got me thinking about that thin line between an a healthy and unhealthy self esteem. I saw that the SMH had some dire statistics reporting the huge proportion of women who have some gripe about their body image. Its not really anything new and as far as I'm concerned the media uses body image as a marketing weapon.

Send A Hug

April 19th 2006 01:42
I agree that what the world needs now is love... sweet love.

However, with all these nasty diseases, bird flus, mad cows etc, there's no way I'm going about making physical contact with anybody. Heaven knows what I might catch. So the simple solution is the spread the virtual love hug. Enter the world of onlinehugs. Not even distance can seperate you and a loved one from a big sloppy warm and fuzzy.

Sex Games

April 17th 2006 00:53

Its time to fold away the Dance Revolution dance mat, toss out the joysticks and get a Pink Rabbit. Online gamers are swapping fighting for fornicating. It’s not a totally new concept, Sims Hot Date, Virtual Jenna and Playboy Mansion have fused sex and gaming. However, these games were played on a completely independent level. The unique thing about the latest generation of sex gaming is the online component. For the first time gamers can interact with other users.

Vege-dates

April 7th 2006 20:58
I’ve discovered this new fad of dating by diet preference. It’s utter genius! When you think about it, food and dining is a pretty big part of people’s daily lives. As a meat eater, I will automatically cut any vegetarian or vegan off the potential partner list. Cross dieting relationships are such a minefield. There’s the continual guilt trips, the restaurant negotiations and the grocery store domestics. The combination is just total chaos. I vegetarian friend is enough to push the boundaries of tolerance.

Now, thanks to Diet Apartheid, all these problems are solved. Vegetarians and vegans around the world are hooking up on dating sites such as Vegedate and VeggieFishing. I think this needs to be taken further. Finding a partner would be so much easier with the likes of Atkinslovers.com, hiproteinlowcarbconnections.org or lonleylactoseintolerants.co.
