Snookum-wookums

January 31st 2007 01:29
Why is it that when you're in love, you feel compelled to give your main squeeze the most hideous of nicknames, then proceed to call eachother by these horrendous names in public places? Over the years I've heard some truely bizarre name calling. Pet Names for Lovers is an absolute hoot. If your struggling to find the right pet name that encompasses your loved one, the hard work is taken out by this pet name generator. Apparently from now on, if you want a piece of my ass, its going to cost you a "Cuddle boo Squishey-Sweet Cheeks" whispered softly in my ear.

Here's a top ten list of the most popular romantic pet names for you lover

I saw this article the other day and thought it was taking the court of law into personal relationships to the extreme. I'm not one to condone cheating, but surely there is a limit to the reach of illegal activities. I suppose life imprisonment is one way of reigning in a cheating spouse... I thought relegation to the couch or garden shed was hard. No wonder Bill Clinton was so adament about denying his extra-marital sexual relations - although, methinks that DC state laws are a little more liberal on such matters.

Now when it comes to abuse and physical violence, I think there is just cause for the full force of the law to step in and bring order to the situation. I can understand the need for the court of law to step into a gruesome marriage break up. However, when it comes to cheating and extra-marital flings, I tend to think that this is an issue that can and should be resolved between the two adults and possibly with the aide of a professional counsellor rather than a judge.

Male Contraceptive Pill

January 29th 2007 00:05
This is the big finale to the male contraceptive pill discussion...

So if the surveys at least indicate that society is happy to accept a male hormonal contraceptive treatment, exactly how far off are we from having men on contraceptive pills? The big snag in the development of these contraceptive pills is getting 100% effectiveness in disabling all the man's sperm. There's no use just stopping the majority of the sperm, it only takes one to fetilise an egg and get the procreation ball rolling.

Male Contraceptive Pill

January 26th 2007 00:40
This post follows from the previous discussion about the development of a male contraceptive pill...

In fact, one of the biggest setbacks to the development of a male contraceptive pill was the cynicism that men would not take to the daily regimen responsibly. Pills would be missed, other drug interactions may take place... all in all, there was a general lack of belief that young men could take the responsibility of daily birth control.

Male Contraceptive Pill

January 25th 2007 00:12
In the 60s, the female birth control pill sparked a sexual revolution. Suddenly women had new found freedoms and powers over their hormones, sexual lifestyle and childbirth. More than just becoming a method for providing sexual liberation for women, the pill challenged the way society viewed sex. There was a re-evaluation over gender roles in terms of sex and reproduction. Prior to the 60s, it was generally the males responsibility to take upon birth control with the supply of condoms. The significance of the female birth control pill is that the balance of decision-making power over conception shifted pretty definitively to the woman and to having control over her own body.

It seems that when it comes to contraceptive methods, the balance of power has definately shifted towards the females. Aside from the condom, there's not much else for men - unless you're looking at a permanent solution, such as a vasectomy or heaven forbid - abstinence. In the famous words of Dylan, the times they are a changing... albeit 40 years after the development of the female hormonal contraceptive treatment.

Building Self Confidence

January 24th 2007 01:51
This is the final post of the series covering the topic of building self confidence. Possibly the most expensive, but effective method of addressing a self confidence problem is to join a self-confidence group or seeking out a one-on-one counseller. You have a whole range of tools - strengths, skills, abilities and strategies - available to you which will enhance your confidence. But sometimes you may not be fully aware of them. A cousellor or group therapy class can help you become aware of ways to boost your self confidence and put you on the path to a fuller lifestyle.

You don't even need to stick to confidence focused classes. Taking up an empowering new activity and mastering it can develop an overall sense of achievement, worth and confidence. Taking up martial arts, a musical instrument, sculpture classes, yoga, meditation... all these activities can help you focus towards self betterment and self worth.

Building Self Confidence

January 23rd 2007 00:29
In the previous post I covered some resources for developing self confidence. Self confidence can be a shattering problem which may prevent singles from finding new dates or embarking on new relationships. Thankfully, building self confidence is not an impossible task. Books and the internet are two great resources to get started with for developing self confidence. Two other methods are neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and self-help classes or counselling.

Building Self Confidence

January 22nd 2007 00:59
Ever noticed how the confident guys and gals always seem to snare the hottest dates and lovers? Self confidence is one very big factor in your overall appeal. Not only does a poor sense of self confidence hinder your date snaring skills it can be a real obstacle to enjoying a full life. Someone lacking in self confidence is more likely to pass up a whole host of life experiences, oppertunities and fun simply becuase they don't have the necessary self belief to give new experiences a chance.

There are many ways of breaking the mental boundaries of a lacking self confidence. If you've found yourself shying away from conversations becuase you're self conscious of your body, passed up on dates because you didn't think you were good enough or turned down oppertunities becuase you didn't think you were capable... have a look at building your self confidence. In the end, you will find the only barrier is yourself. Have a look at some of these ideas for tearing down those self confidence barriers and start harnessing a fuller life.

The First Date Guide - Where to Go

January 19th 2007 00:59
You've done the hard work - you've approached someone and not only talked to them but secured both their telephone number and a date. Just when you thought the hard part was over, now comes all the perils of a first date. The big finale to all your hard work is the date itself. There's a lot you can do to prepare, to help things run smoothly (and hopefully help you secure a second date). Over the next few posts I'll cover some ideas to help you prepare for the date and keep things running along smoothly on the date.

Remember, if you prepare, a first date needn't be the harrowing, sweaty palm experience it is often notorious for.

Thanks to the media, we have become accustomed to extremely rigid and uniform standards of beauty. Standards of beauty have in fact become harder and harder to attain, particularly for women. The current media ideal of thinness for women is achievable by less than 5% of the female population. Many people ignore the fact that the idealised body images that surround them are just that - idealised - and actually unattainable for most of us. This means they find themselves on a relentless pursuit of the elusive perfect figure - which just leaves them chronically dissatisfied with their appearance. This can lead to poor self-esteem and a lack of confidence.

It helps to put the whole issue into perspective, remembering you're not alone. The vast majority of people don't have (and won't ever have) these perfect bodies either, but what does that really mean? The truth is that it doesn't actually mean you can't have the positive things we associate with these images. This is a fallacy that started in Hollywood - and it should remain there.

Self confidence is a must when it comes to dating success. Those who are shy and self-concious rarely do well on the singles circuit. People are always drawn towards those that are fun, energetic and the life of the party. In other words, self confidence is a crucial ingredient in making you attractive to potential dates. When we are self concious we tend to clam up - which makes us look like we're not all that interested in the people around us.

There are several issues and circumstances that can make us self concious. Some of us my be self concious about our body image, other my be concious of their accents, career, family, social situations or background. Over the next few posts I'll cover different situations and pressures that can threaten your confidence. There'll also be some handy tips in overcoming these self-esteem problems.

Swanky First Dates

January 11th 2007 05:29
In the first couple seconds of meeting someone new we subconsciously and consciously make instant judgements about people's characters and personalities. That is why first impressions are so important in the dating game and why we all want to make sure that the first date is memorable for all the right reasons.

The number one way of making a grand first impression is paying attention to some personal styling. If there is one thing you are in control of when it comes to a date it is your personal appearance. Rather than opting for a boring predictable outfit or worse something rather daggy or inappropriate, chose something classy, that highlights your best physical features. Definately stick with highlighting rather than exposing. Basically find a style which you are comfortable in and is cut for your body shape.

Shut Up!: Topics that Make Men Gag

January 10th 2007 00:46
I've just finished reading a book by Kate White, 'How to Set His Thighs On Fire' - a tongue in cheek christmas gift from one of my good friends. I can say it was the most ground breaking read I've picked up lately. A lot of sheer commonsense to be honest. I'm not a big reader of the self-help genre, so it was somewhat refreshing to leave the biographies and crime novels I've been getting into lately and take the time for some inward reflection.

One thing that did really impress me about this book was that it didn't completely focus on nabbing sex and men. The title sort of threw me and I was expecting this Nazi-esque tirade of how to perfect my mind, body and aire inorder to capture the man of my dreams. Instead I found more of a mentor book that offered sound advice on sex, men, life, self-confidence, and work.

Shane & Simone Warne Back On

January 9th 2007 00:43
Lets say that you are in Simone Warne's boots, would you be inclined to take back Australia's cricketing hero Shane. He's arsed you round on numerous occasions, he's possibly not the best role model for your kids. But at the same time, Shane can do no wrong. There is something universally likeable about Shane and the rest of the nation seems swift to forgive his transgressions... provided he keeps delivering stellar wickets.

If the rumour mill is to be believed Australia's ocker couple Shane and Simone Warne are heading for a reunion. Personally I think it was all a bit of a farse from the get go. The split sold a few stories for the glossy girly mags, but seriously Simone, could you really hold out on that Warne appeal? She was always coming back and now that he's touring days are over, one would think she'll be able to keep a closer eye on his phone and whereabouts.

Dumping a Man's Guide

January 8th 2007 01:28
As The Dumper

As the dumper, breaking up is never easy, especially when you are consumed with guilt. You might have second thoughts about the breakup, nagging doubts. If you are the one initiating the breakup, you will feel at least some guilt. To break up with someone is one of the meanest things you can possibly do to anyone, ever.

How to chat someone up

January 4th 2007 06:57
If you're tired of life as a single then it can pay to be a bit more original when you meet a potential date. Initiating conversation can be difficult. We all want to avoid cheesy chat up lines that make us all cringe. At the same time we want to sound like we've got a little more personality and orginality than the pint we're clutching. Done right, chatting someone up can be a lot of fun and needn't be as difficult as first imagined.

For a start lets look at getting the foot in the door with an approach strategy. The key to an approach strategy is to create opportunities where you can subtly talk to someone without it feeling like you're chatting them up. Rather than opting for a chessy one-liner think of ways you can create and entire approach scenario. Get in the groove of a hunter stalking their prey. Create a situation where you can start a conversation and be adventurous in the way you go about it. It doesn't have to be in a bar, party or club, supermarkets are also ideal places to meet people.
