Australia lacking in Aussie blokes
November 27th 2008 06:49
It's a sad turn for Australia, home of the Aussie bloke, a species of man noted by his love of footy, his love of bbq, his love of beer and his love of 'no worries'.
Well, Australian women love the blokes, too, but new research suggests that the Aussie bloke has become an endangered species.
The Telegraph is giving time to the same study, moaning about the conservation practices that have left us with fewer than 10 000 Aussie blokes left in the wild. The exception is that the Telegraph is criticizing Mark Latham, former Labour leader, for his remarks about the loss of the Bloke:
""Mates and good blokes have been replaced by nervous wrecks, metrosexuals and nerds."
Rough stuff - but the Telegraph deals it out, stating that if the loss of the Bloke seems tragic, it's the Australian women that are to blame:
"Indeed, unable to relate to this new, liberated Australian woman, Aussie men have been opting for women who are traditionally seen as more submissive, on the surface at least.
They are marrying Chinese, Thai and Filipina women in greater numbers than ever before such marriages increased fourfold in the past decade."

The 'research' done this week was sponsored by Barons Brewing, who are starting a 'Save the Male' campaign, lamenting the shift of masculinity from rough men to "a rise in the number of champagne-drinking metrosexuals more interested in hair products than hanging out with mates. "
I'd like to remind people that, even on small scales, there's a sense of cultural evolution - that is, people will adapt to shift towards cultural norms. Men being labelled as 'metrosexuals' is nothing more than these men being successful in our culture, which clearly values a lot of the metrosexual qualities: dressing well, knowing how to cook, reading and being informed.
If that's too much, if that makes women despair of the lack of 'real men', then a shift back to beer-swilling, footy-watching men is easily promoted! Get on it!

Personally, I don't have anything against the idea of metrosexuals, except for the love of shopping. Metrosexual is just a newer word to describe modern dandies!

Whatever happened to people being themselves.
To me all this Metrosexual verses cavemen stuff just looks like a bunch of masks that people wear.
