General First Date Advice

January 15th 2007 00:36
At the end of last week I posted up some styling advice for women and men embarking on a first date. It was a general, what to wear and how to wear it guide for both genders. Today, I'll cover some general tips for a first date which should give a pretty good start to anyone preparing for a first date and wishing to make a fantastic first impression. These tips are all related to general styling tips for a first date and are applicable to both men and women.

Things you should do on a first date:

1. Do have clean hands and nails, we all notice hands and grubby is a turn off. If you are a fingernail biter, get some of that clear awful tasting nail polish from a chemist and take action towards stopping the habit.

2. Have a small power snack before you go out. Ideally stick with something low carb/ salt/caffeine, to stop you feeling bloated and too full. A small snack is a good idea before you go out to curb the hunger pangs, settles any butterflies in your stomach and stop your first drink going straight to your head. If you are going out for a meal, keep the snack light. On the other hand, if you are meeting up for a drink or later in the evening, make sure you have a good meal.

3. Choose one area of your body you are happy to reveal and flaunt it. You may have killer legs, great arms, shoulders, chest. Whatever is your best asset, flog it for all it is worth. Stick with this one asset and you'll appear sexy and stylish. Try and flog every part of you're body will make you look cheap and nasty. If you've got a plunging neckline, that fine, just don't wear the micro mini and skyscraper heels with it. You'll look like a tart. Similarly for the men, a hint of a shapely buff body is far more attractive than wearing a something that resembles a bodysuit to reveal every ripple and contour. There is more appeal mystery that overt attention grabbing.

4. Do make time to wash your hair. Greasy or dirty hair always shows if you haven't bothered. It also makes it a bit easier to style if you get started with a clean crop. A first date isn't necessarily a good time to start experimenting with funky new hair trends. You'll prbably find yourself feeling self concious and continually adjusting your do. Go with a style you're a comfortable with wearing and you know works with your face.

5. Do remember less is more in every respect on a date, be it bronzer, aftershave or jewellery. Remember that seduction is all in the art of mystery.

6. Do wear clothes that fit properly. Spilling out of clothes that are too small looks plain awful and unstylish. Overly baggy clothes can make you look frumpy, unflattering and unshapely. Go for fitted and comfortable.
