Who is your favourite Bond?

October 27th 2006 01:12
With the imminent release of 007 Casino Royale, we’ve once again been bombarded with the huge media pitch that is aimed at getting seats in the cinema. I’m looking forward to the new Bond. For a start there’s the fresh legs of Daniel Craig with some big shoes to fill. I’m a little apprehensive with how he’ll fit the role. There have been times he’s almost looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights during press and media events. Although, I didn’t see anything discouraging in the trailer.

Eitherway, I hope he does well. There’s nothing worse than having to endure the 140 minutes of George Lazenby’s attempts to be sauve and sophisticated in On Her Magesty’s Service.

With all the gadgets, cars and impossible plot developments a big factor in the series has been raw sex appeal. From the outset, Bond films have been notorious for flogging the raw sex appeal angle.

So who was your favourite Bond or Bond Girl?

Sean Connery is in the enviable position as being the original. He was able to define the personality of Bond’s to come. I think this puts him at an unfair advantage. Nevertheless, Sean is by far and way my favourite Bond. I’ve got to admit, back in the day, ole Sean was a bit of a stud.

This is Casino Royale's theme song...

I love Pierce Brosnan and thought he was a great Bond. However, in saying that, I saw the trailer for Casino Royale when I went to see Boytown last weekend and it looks great. Daniel Craig seems great as Bond. Mind you, I've always thought he was pretty hot anyway. But he gives the role a different kind of cool (in my mind anyway).

I'd never even heard of Daniel Craig until this Bond. What else has he been in?

One of my odest friends had a decrepit old dog named Lazenby.

My Fav has to be Pierce.

Hi Ruth,

It has to be Sean Connery, without a doubt. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Second, of course, would be Pierce Brosnan.

Suave sophistication, all the way. Poor old George didn't have a hope of living up to Sean's standard, that's for sure.

Whilst he wasn't physically appealing I always liked the comic relief that Roger Moore added to the role.

There is only one Bond as his name is ....Connery-Sean-Connery.

Timothy Dalton runs a close second for me. Cold and calculating he is the only one to come close to the Ian Fleming Bond of the novels.

I agree George Lazenby was a lack lustre Bond but the story and action scenes in On Her Majesty's Secret Service are some of the best in the series.

Forgot to list my favourite Bond girls:

The winner for me is Domino (Claudine Augler) in Thunderball

Then in no order to round out a top 5-

Tracy (Diana Rigg) -On Her Majesty's secret Service
Honey Ryder (Ursulla Andress)-Dr No
Melina (Carole Borquet)- For Your Eyes Only
Anya (Barbara Bach)- The Spy Who Loved Me

Interesting. I really disliked Timothy Dalton as James Bond. He's only trumped by Lazenby as my least favourite Bond.

He seemed to make the character appear too emotionally vulnerable for my liking. Plus he was lacking that raw sex appeal.

Wow Ruth,

doesn't this new Casino Royale look like fun...!

There is nothing I like more than the sheer escape of a Bondy. Got them all and my fav. Bond to-date is Pierce B, hands down. Not always in the best plots, but best Bond. This new one looks like it could battle for supremecy at least in the raw sex appeal mix of things...

Thanks for the preview.
Do you know when it comes out in Australia?

Lilla.

Hey Lilla,

Casino Royale is released on December 7 in Australia. If you're in the US you'll only have to wait until November 11.

I've added the theme song for Casino Royale to this post which includes some more footage of the movie.

Hi Ruth...

I agree with you about Roger Moore, not physically appealing but I liked the 'comic relief' plus he went from 'Saint' to 'Whoops Halo Slipped But Still Good' and I agree with John Doe (Hi JD!) about Timothy Dalton best capturing Ian Fleming's original character, cigarettes and all.
However I preferred him as Prince Barin in 'Flash Gordon'...

The only movie I've seen Daniel Craig in is the first Lara Croft, he's okay, does the action-man thing well BUT we'll just all have to wait and see...he's a bit too James Blond...!!

For me, James Bond will allways be Sir Sean Connery.
Ach, its trew...only a Fine Scot can be a Killer Brit.
And oh man...what a man...yum...
AND to be sure, to be sure this Oirish lad, Pierce Brosnan did it for me 2.

Best Bond Women:
Octopussy (Maud Adams)
Wai Lin (Michelle Yeoh) - 'Tomorrow Never Dies'
Dr Holly Goodhead (Lois Maxwell) - 'Moonraker'
Pussy Galore -subtle name (Honor Blackman) - 'Goldfinger'
and the Kung Fu sisters in 'The Man With The Golden Gun'

She's a baddie, sure, but Xenia Onatopp...fabulously nuts!! As is Fatima Blush in 'Never Say Never Again' (does this movie count?) and Sophie Marceau as Elektra King in 'The World Is Not Enough' is gorgeous and who can forget Bambi and Thumper ('Diamonds Are Forever')??

And yes, I do own the whole Bond movie collection...

The best was Connery but I also like Moore- the funniest. I think Craig is the most liked the book, but it takes time to judge. They've actually all been good.
1. Connery
2. Moore
3. Craig
4.Brosnan
5. Dalton
6.Lazenby
