And just like that Ruth found a man…

October 16th 2006 00:51
Wow what a whirlwind just a few days ago I was lamenting about having never been in love then last night I meet a guy who I felt this amazing connection with. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it love at first sight, but there was something slightly different about the way that I was attracted to him compared to past guys that I’ve dated. Its difficult to explain. There wasn’t this gushing emotion, the rush of endorphins that I might get when I make eye contact with a stunning specimen of a male. This was totally different. I just had this incredible sense of ease and comfort around him. I felt safe, secure and totally relaxed. I thought it was sort of bizarre. I mean Hollywood would have you think that first dates should be these momentous experiences of gushing hormones. There was no gushing, instead it felt like we’d know each other for the past ten years.

The creep thing that got me was the amount that we have in common. Both of us studied the same university degree and work in related fields. We’re interested in the same kinds of music, films and entertainment. Political, religious and social views are on the same page. Both have live in Japan and loved it. We’re both planning on sailing around the Caribbean and South America in a similar future time frame. We even drive the same make and model of truck. I felt like I’d found a male twin.

Anyhow, I’m interested to see where this new relationship with Matt (yep, my second Matt – it seems every second American is named Matt!) is heading.

As for how we hooked up… meet just randomly in a bar and started chatting. An hour into hanging around the bar and bored with the scene we moved onto a diner to grab a snack. Satisfactorily stuffed, we decided to catch a movie, Jet Li’s Fearless at the local mall and wandered about the various shops. A night out for a cap off the week beer suddenly morphed into a date with a complete stranger.

Just goes to show, the best guys will often strike when you’re not even looking.

I figure I’ll track the development of this new relationship with Matt. Something gives me the funny feeling this one is going to be a bit more different to my past relationships. There’ll be a updates as things progress. Dating in the public domain!

He’s in the US navy and all this week he’ll be coasting around somewhere in the Atlantic. So no new news until next weekend.
