First Date Style Wrongs
January 16th 2007 01:53
This is the final post which rounds up the last couple posts regarding styling tips for first dates. As we all know first impressions last. So when it comes to a first date, you want to make sure you are coming across as a stud rather than a dud. These are a few things that you shouldn't do if you're intending on being stylish on your first date.
1. Don't start drinking when you're getting ready. It may settle the nerves, but you'll arrive drunk and appear to be a lame pisspot.
2. Don't wear clothes that aren't appropriate for the chosen venue. Over dressing is just as disasterous as under dressing. You should have a pretty good idea of where you are going on the date so dress accordingly. In the same vein think of any activity you may be required to do and consider what you wear. An afternoon of dancing or bowling will require a completely different outfit to something you'd wear to a concert.
3. Don't dress like a totally different person from the way you would normally. Let the clothes project your personality. Wearing clothes you are not used to will most likely leave you feeling uncomfortable and self concious. Make the date easier on yourself by choosing attire which you know work with your shape.
4. Don't take over the top presents with you. Flowers or a small gift the day after the date is a very sweet gesture which will be definately appreciated. Taking anything of significant value is going to make you look desperate for a date or more valueable than an African diamond mine. Choose a token gift rather than something too extravagent. You don't want to make your date feel obliged as this will lead to awkwardness whether things work out or not between you.
5. Don't reveal intimate secrets or draw attention to defects, real or imagined. Let your date decide if you're too tubby, lazy, unattractive or lacking in personality. We've all got our inadequancies, don't dwell on them. Instead, adopt a positive attitude and focus on your good points.
6. Don't go overboard with too much jewellery. It looks tacky, its a distraction and its a turn off. Actually, it screams insecurity. A few nice pieces are more than enough.
