Swanky First Dates

January 11th 2007 05:29
In the first couple seconds of meeting someone new we subconsciously and consciously make instant judgements about people's characters and personalities. That is why first impressions are so important in the dating game and why we all want to make sure that the first date is memorable for all the right reasons.

The number one way of making a grand first impression is paying attention to some personal styling. If there is one thing you are in control of when it comes to a date it is your personal appearance. Rather than opting for a boring predictable outfit or worse something rather daggy or inappropriate, chose something classy, that highlights your best physical features. Definately stick with highlighting rather than exposing. Basically find a style which you are comfortable in and is cut for your body shape.

Style Tips for Women:

1. Remember, less is more when it comes to looking alluring, you want to look mysterious, not like a cheap hooker. If you are wearing something that you continuously need to adjust and push around to keep yourself in and covered, leave it in the wardrobe. Plunging anything and falling shoulder straps are just plain trashy.

2. This is not the night for long red nails or bright red lips; they're both too obvious a sign to a man that you are interested. Again elegant not Diana Ross in the 80s.

3. Wear discreet jewellery, not masses of gold. You don't want to look like a tricked out tryhard. Just stick with a few of your favourite pieces. There's no need to show ALL the family jewels on the first date.

4. Looking too trendy is also a bad idea. Your best friend might be jealous of your outfit, but your date may find it plain scary. It is best to stick with your personal style. There's no need to go rushing out shopping for a new first date trendy outfit.

5. Use a colour corrector (green coloured foundation) as a base if you are prone to blushing or flush when you drink alcohol.

6. Never try and shop for a new outfit on the day of the date; life never works like that, you will get increasingly stressed and rarely will you find your dream outfit. Rifle through your wardrobe and find something that you know works a treat. Everyone has at least one killer outfit up their sleeve.

7. Make sure you wear a bra that fits you properly and feel confident showing off a hint of cleavage. It's amazing how many women wear the wrong size or a poorly fitting bra. It shows. You can get properly fitted in a specialty store or even some of the larger department stores if you're not sure what your proper size is.

8. If in doubt, think Meg Ryan rather than Madonna - a mysterious feminine look is a definite winner with most men.
