Getting Physical with your Partner
September 20th 2006 00:57
No not that sort of physical… I’m talking about grabbing your partner and hitting the local gym, bushwalk, cycling trail, fitness class, boot camp or recreation park. We’ve all been warned about this obesity epidemic that is plaguing modern society, so there is good reason to get out and schedule some regular exercise. I think the perfect training buddy or team-mate would have to be your partner and would provide some positive reinforcement in your relationship.
The number one reason for recruiting your partner in your exercise regime is that it is a really good feel good activity that you can both share. Even people that hate exercise will have to admit that getting the blood rushing leaves them in a better mood. Moving about gets the endorphins flowing. With endorphins comes that exercise high and the positive chemistry that keeps a relationship thriving. A natural effect of exercise is that it leaves you feeling happy, dandy, confident and hormone charged. Times that by two and you’re set for some hot post workout err, rubdowns.
Seriously, the benefits of exercise will do wonders for your sex life. Stamina, strength, flexibility… I don’t know why anyone would resign themselves to a life as a couch potato.
Another benefit of exercising with your partner is that you get to see them at their most stunning. Fair enough, some may look damn hot when they get themselves dolled up for a date, however, there’s something primordially sexy about a person all dirty, sweaty, scantly clad and rosy cheeked. Exercise tends to bring out this inner natural glow in everyone. The eyes light up, the skin plumps up, any muscle definition becomes more visible, there’s more of a spring in the step. I tend to think of the made up, trendy clothed, manicured look as a manufactured variety of sexiness. The post workout look is a natural form of sexiness. A natural instinct is to see appeal in someone who exhibits physical athleticism.
Gyms and spin classes aren’t for everyone and just because you and/or your partner are not fitness fanatics does not mean that you can enjoy the benefits of some couples exercise to reinforce your relationship. Dancing can be a fun active activity. Choose a style, which could be anything from modern street style dance, caperiro or ballroom and enroll in some local class. Alternatively, hit the nightclubs and make a point of hitting the d-floor. Biking and walking are good activities where you can build up light fatigue and combine a good chat. If you’re both into a common sport like tennis or volleyball look for a social mixed comp to join. Even just grabbing a ball and playing in the local park can contribute to your exercise requirements and keep things fun.
With daylight savings and the warmer months nearing, its time to grab your partner and venture out of hibernation.
