Guys: What is the first thing you notice in a girl?
October 24th 2006 01:34
I’ve done a bit of research and come up with a list of the popular things guys report as the first thing that they notice in a girl that they’ve just met. According to the polls and online forums confidence and physical appearance is well up there.
Generally the trend is that an open, outgoing, fun and confident personality is the first thing that will get a guy’s interest. After that the attention is quickly drawn to the physical assets. Breasts, body types, eyes, smile and booties come in secondary. They’re listed as an additional benefit in developing the initial attraction.
The variety of physical characteristics that are listed as attraction getters is varied and some are just plan obscure. Slender fingers, pretty feet, a long neck, the overall shape of the face, upper arms, rounded hips, ethnicity… lets just say not all men are hung up on the traditional feminine pulling points.
Considering the vast variety of physical characteristics that guys list as attractive drawing cards in a woman’s physical appearance it really became apparent that there is no need for a woman to get too hung up on any physical short comings. If you’re not as tall and toned as a supermodel, busty as a Hooters girl or have a toosh like J Lo, there’s really no need to fret. The key is to focus on the physical aspects that are great selling points. There’s not too much you can do about your genes. If you’re genetically built a certain body type, only an extreme makeover is going to transform most of your physical attributes.
In the end, transformation is pretty fruitless. No sooner does someone loose a bit of tuckshop lady arm wobble suddenly they’ll find something else that’s not acceptable. A girl who is comfortable in her own skin is going to naturally ooze confidence and radiance. You can predict what a guy is going to find physically attractive and what one likes the other might find repulsive. Sculpting the perfect form wont necessarily help. Case in point, for every guy that thought Pamela Anderson was attractive, there was a guy that thought she was butt ugly.
The good news is that the important factors of personality and the way you carry yourself can be easily altered. This is not to suggest you should completely change your personality. If your not an outgoing, crazy life of the party type, acting that way is just going to appear fake and lame. The idea is to know and be who you are but be confident and happy with who you are. Focus on what you like doing/beliefs/values etc rather than what everyone else is doing and you’ll find the boys will come running.
As the forums suggest, it is the confidence and personality that are the first attention grabber anyway. Looks are never going to hide a dull personality or an insecure person and these are the attributes that will turn someone off for the long term.
So girls, the conclusion is… if your primary aim is to simply score phone numbers and see how many times you can get hit on… you’d better be in top physical shape. If you’re wanting to snatch a second date, brush up on the self confidence and the way that you carry yourself.

But once I get to know her, personality, good sense of humour and intelligence, which I think makes someone even more attractive becomes more of a priority.
