How did you meet your partner?

Yesterday I did the typical girly thing and blabbed to the whole world about this new guy I just met and the first date. I’m always interested in hearing the stories of how couples met. They always seem to be under these chance circumstances. A twist of fate and suddenly these people bump into their compatible match. So share your stories quirky or mundane about how you hooked up with current or previous partners.
My parents got together by my crafty dad deciding to cut his rental bill by getting jiggy with the landlady’s daughter. It’s a pretty fun story of courtship and shows some tenacity on my fathers side.
My father immigrated to Australia from Italy during the early 60s. He came from a rural area with not much more than the clothes on his back. He traveled down the east coast of Australia working in cane fields and god knows what else and stopped when he got down to Sydney. Boarding houses were a popular place for European immigrants to live as they offered cheap accommodation and the opportunity for these Europeans to live together and provide a little slice of home away from home.
As it was, my dad took up a bed in my grandmother’s boarding house in the inner west and found a steady labouring job in the city. Life was peachy and every Saturday morning my 19 year old mother was sent round to the rooms to collect the rent and make sure nothing was trashed. As it turned out my dad took a liking to this young thing that would bash at the door every Saturday morning. At first she wasn’t all that interested but dad turned on the Italian charm and before long it was all on.
I’ve been told some hilarious stories of chasings down the hallway of the boarding house by a frying pan wielding grandmother. All reports have confirmed that she was a rather eccentric character. She had a violent streak and didn’t think twice about casting a vase, pot plant or open handed slap at someone who pissed her off. As dad was a mischievous character, he’d become use to these flying objects. Despite the arguments and family friction, my parents were able to form a strong bond, married, had kids and continue to live the rosy lifestyle.
So that’s hooking up 60s style for immigrant Australians. What’s your story and what has been the most bizarre twist of fate style hook up that you’ve heard of?

I was finishing up a DJ gig one Saturday night, and a friend turned up to meet me. I knew of a house party being thrown by another friend of mine. I couldn't get through to her by phone, so we assumed the party was still going strong.
We got to the party around 3am or so, and the party had almost ground to a halt. There were decks set up but no one was DJing anymore. The 15 odd people still remaining were chewing the fat in the kitchen.
I jumped on the decks and started spinning tunes, and the party vibe was re-invigorated.
A short Maltese girl asked my friend who I was, and how come I had so much energy. My friend replied that I was like that; always had been. The girl came to chat to me while I played tunes. Meanwhile my friend started sifting with the Maltese girl's best friend.
Next thing I remember is the Maltese girl and I have slunk behind the decks and are laughing and kissing ... the rest is history ...

Parties are a great place to hook up. I think people are more relaxed and reveal their true selves when they get into the groove of a party atmosphere.
