Swanky First Dates

In the last post I cover some of the basic tips for women's styling on a first date. Today, I'll cover some tips for men wanting to create a seamless first impression. So what is style all about. Simply put, style is quite simply wearing what suits you. Anyone can have style and anyone can learn how to dress for maximum dating success. The key is following some basic guidelines and finding out what clothing and accessories best compliment your body and character. Developing a sense of style is all about emphasising your good points, to make sure you arrive on a first date slathered in sex appeal, class and confidence.
First Date Styling Tips for Men
1. Avoid humorous, cartoonish ties, shirts, socks etc. No woman is going to find your Garfield shirt and Dr Suess tie in the slightest bit appealing. It makes you look like a big kid and absolutely un-sexy.
2. Don't feel like you have to wear a suit. Stick with some smart clothes that you are comfortable in. Looking uptight and constantly fiddling with a choking collar is a real turnoff. Dress for the occassion. If you're going to a movie stick with smart casual, you'll look stupid going to a movie dressed in formal attire.
3. On the otherhand, make sure that you do put some thought into your clothing choices. Wear smart separates that look like you have made an effort. Trying to look like you haven't bothered is insulting to your date, and is arrogant in the extreme. Something clean and pressed that hasn't been hanging round the back of the wardrobe for the better part of a decade is a good start.
4. Make sure you wear a reliable deodorant. Underarm patches are never a good look and are more likely to appear when you are nervous. You don't want a pungent smell to be the highlighting memory of your date.
5. Only wear sandals or thongs (flip flops) if you have good feet. Bad feet and nails are a real turn off. Many women can go off a potential lover when they see a pair of yellow toenails. If you are on the dating circuit, start tending to your feet sooner rather than later. Treat the foot odor and smelly shoes before it becomes a cronic problem.
6. Never try and impress your date with inside fashion knowledge if you don't know what you are talking about. There is always a chance she will know more than you and see through your act. As a general rule, avoid bullshit at all costs. You may sound impressive but eventually she'll twig that you're just a flaky try-hard.
7. Have the confidence to give your date a compliment on what she's wearing. Every woman likes to know that her effort has been appreciated, even if you dislike her outfit, find one thing to focus on and be complimentary.
