More Fun Date Ideas

4) Wander through a gallery – There are a stack of galleries and exhibitions located throughout the larger cities of Australia. As kids we were often dragged to them on school excursions, rekindle the inner child, get cultured and make a dating with you and your mate to the local gallery. There are a plethora of exhibitions and galleries out there so the old, “paintings are not my thing” is really no excuse. Look for an exhibition that both you and your partner will enjoy, something that touches on common interests. Try a photo exhibition, contemporary art, museums or independent galleries for inspiration. There is no need for any art education and no one is going to look at you like some behemoth, uncultured slob. It is actually a great way of connecting and communicating with your partner. You get to discuss what each of you like, dislike and share an appreciation of creativity.
5) Enroll in a course – There are community colleges and organizations located throughout Australia that offer short term courses in a huge variety of activites. Typically, the courses will run for a few hours per week and generally at times to fit in with people shackled to the working week. The activities and courses offered are limitless and relatively affordable. Computer training, business, pottery, swimming, yoga, drawing, sculpture, dancing, history, cooking and political discussion courses are just a small selection of what is typically offered. Pick something that you and your partner have an interest in or would like to learn more about. Doing a course together is a great way of bringing a couple closer together as they share and learn together. It gives you something common to discuss, share ideas about and part-take in the fun as a couple.
6) Go wine tasting – Getting tipsy getting everyone into the lovey dovey spirit. Why not organize a short weekend wine tasting holiday and get giggly with your partner. Ok, so theoretically wine tasting is all about appreciating the wine sniffing, swishing and spitting, but no one is going to be calling the wino Gestapo if you take the odd gulp rather than spit. Infact, when I was on a wine tasting tour, no one spat the grappa goodness… seriously what a waste of perfectly good wine. There are two options for a wine tasting tour. You can do it yourself, plot out the vineyards you’d like to visit and self-drive from station to station. The big problem with a self tour is keeping the blood alcohol level at a safe and legal level. Of course, the advantage is that you can take the tour at your own pace. Wine, dine and frolic through the grapevines together. Many wineries offer luxury overnight cabins for a very special short break.
The other option is to book a wine tasting tour. The tour buses are very comfortable and generally take a small fleet of wine tasters to the most popular wineries in the region. Some tours will include a tour guide who will give you a running commentary about passing attractions and allows both of you to take in the landscape of the countryside. Tours packages are either all day or overnight depending on your budget and time limits. If there is anything that tickles the tastebuds, buy a case and relive the memories back home.
