More Online Dating Safety Advice

On Monday and Tuesday, I presented the first two parts of my nanna shpeal about safety advice for online dating. Today I've added some further meet up ideas.
This also leads to the topic of commuting to and from the date. Make sure you have an independent and reliable way of getting to your dating destination. Don’t accept a lift to or from the meeting point from your date. Either drive yourself to the meeting spot, arrange a lift and pick up with a friend or get public transport. If you are getting public transport check the routes and timetables. Be sure to know how to get to and from your meeting spot and make sure there is a means of getting to and from the meeting spot at the times you intend on traveling. If you are getting a friend to pick you up and don’t want to feel like a 12 year old getting picked up by mummy, mention at the beginning of the date that you have to meet some friends at whatever time you are to be picked up to do some shopping/go to a party/see a football game.
This introduces the idea of bringing some friends and third party contacts into the equation. Someone should always know where you are, how you are traveling there and around what time you are expecting to end your date. Any information that you have about your date should be written down and handed to a friend or relative. Name, contact number, whatever information they have provided you with, be sure to pass it on to at least one other person. Get someone to try and contact you if you haven’t called them within a few hours after you expect your date to finish.
If you are still worried about your safety, suggest a meet-up style date. See if your date would be interested in bringing along a couple friends and you will do likewise. The good thing with having your friends about is that they can suss out your date and their friends. Friends can provide some helpful opinions about how well suited you are and pick up traits you may not see. They also get the opportunity to meet you dates friends which can also reveal a lot about a person. A group meet up may also help some of your fellow single friends meet some new and eligible people. A win-win situation all round. If things go well with you and your date, you’ll be meeting each others friends, might as well meet everyone from the outset.
