New Years Resolutions
December 29th 2006 01:03
Yes, New Years resolutions are cheesy and corny. Most of us spin some rubbish about getting fit, loosing weight, finding a better job, quiting smoking and generally commiting to a lifestyle of good behaviour. It seems a little rediculous that we even need to wait until we flip over the final page on our wall calendar to even prompt us to commit to making lifestyle changes. Why shouldn't we be able to just quit smoking today? Afterall Monday is just going to be another day.
But anyway, whilst it is the time of reflection and resolutions I think now is as good a time as any to delve into the field of relationship resolutions. Before the new year is out, have a look back on your relationship/s (or lack there of) over the past year. Are you happy with where you are at the moment? What parts of your relationship would you like to improve and how can you go about making sure that in the new year things will be even better.
On Sunday night, whilst you angst over the gruelling weight loss regimen and months of rabbit food that you've mentally pledged yourself to also take some time to think about the direction of your love and relationship life. Here are some ideas to get you thinking.
1. Commit to spending more time with your partner and family.
No one lies on their deathbed wishing that they spent more time at work. Look at ways you can spend more time with those that you love. Schedule some weekly time in with those that are important to you and use the time to catch up and spend quality moments together. You never know what lies around the corner, so don't take your personal relationships for granted.
2. Express your feelings to those that are important to you.
Sure you may know that deep down you'd be an emotional wreck without your lover/husband/wife/family, but do they know that's the way you feel? It isn't about buying expensive gifts, showing that you care about someone is far more complicated than a credit card signature away. Prioritise your relationships over other commitments. Tell people how much they mean to you. Give them a hug. Laugh, cry, dine, breathe together. These are the best ways to demonstrate to someone just how much they mean to you.
Goodluck in the new year!
