Online Dating Ettiquette

What to do if you find that you are not into an online dating interest after you’ve finally meet up.
It’s one of the trials and tribulations of online dating. Just because someone sounds funny and charming online doesn’t necessarily mean that you will click with them in person. The big question is how to handle the situation after you’ve meet your online love interest only to find that the online attraction hasn’t transpire offline. The easy way out is to simply cut contact with your date. There are no obligations with online dating and you’re not going to get kicked out of an online dating community for not responding to a date. However, it is a pretty rude way of going about things. Particularly if your date thinks that things went really well and has asked you for a second date. It is really not that big a deal to extend some sort of courtesy to someone who took the time to meet you.
The polite way to handle situation is going to depend on how the date unfolded. If it was clear for both of you during the date that things were not clicking, it could be something that is brought up at the end of the date. Explain that you had an enjoyable time, but you didn’t think that you were matched. Thank them for the time and effort. You may want to continue the relationship as friends either online or offline. That way you can continue the hunt for your soul mate with out having guilty feelings of leaving a trail of destruction in your wake.
If the date has ended and you get a follow up enquiry from you dater, obviously they thought there was some sort of spark between you. Again, there is no need to be rude and ignore them or leave a snide remark. Turning down a date online isn’t the nicest way of rejecting someone, but in this situation, unless you are willing to meet up for a quick coffee and chat (which is probably unlikely) there’s no other option. Foremost be sympathetic. Pretend that you are conversing with the date in person. This will prevent you from say something blunt and nasty. Explain that you are flattered that they are interested, however, you didn’t feel that there was a great personal connection. If you would like to remain in contact, let them know and under what sort of cirumstances. Thank them for taking the time and courage to meet you in person and wish them the best of luck. There, you’ve managed to dump an online dating failure in the nicest and respectful possible way. Provided you remain polite and respectful, there is no need to feel guilt about dumping someone. It is no one’s fault if you don’t click in person.
