Sydney Newcomers

Sydney's a big scary place for new residents, full of fast moving people and cars with tinted windows. It's easy to feel invisible and alone in a city full of millions of people, and working in the city is even worse.
The noise of the crowds... the angry horn.. the belch of exhaust and the smell of city streets.
Cities are awful places for human beings to live, and you realize this when you leave, and breathe in the fresh country air for the first time in months.
Cities are terrific places for human interaction, though... once you're outfitted with a crew, a city can offer you exposure to things that you'd never have a chance to see anywhere else.
Sydney's the same... dull to look at, wonderful to scratch under the surface. You just need some people to tag along with.
Sydney Newcomers is a social group that meets once a month at a bar in the city. Over drinks you can meet other new Sydneysiders, find some people you get along with, and try to have a really good time.
It's a great idea and a tribute to the power of the internet. Before we were all wired up, it'd be hard to meet new people and find out about events, except through the newspaper or word-of-mouth.
On the net, though, I see ads for these types of events all the time, which shows how many people are in Sydney, looking to make new friends...
