On the net, you'll occasionally encounter the 'epic lulz', which is something like a forum thread or blog post that goes so wildly popular and out of control that the trolls of the net cheer in mass hysteria.
The best of these are usually related to dating, since that's when people are at their most insecure...
This post by an OKCupid user was posted after a date with a member of the opposite sex. Like we all do, she makes herself sound reasonable, and the guy comes off as a total jerk:
This sounds like an average bad date - until she carries on... she drinks an entire bottle of wine, then gets a text message from the guy, looking for a booty call.
Despite the fact that he was disrespectful to her, she accepts, he comes over and they have sex. She expects there to be many dates in the future and is upset when there are no phone calls:
Several users responded to the post with the obvious comment: why did she accept any booty call offers, and why would she think that sex means a continuation of a relationship? Very silly thinking.
What makes this thread epic? Well, the guy in question happens to pop along and provide his side of the story:
Of course, that causes the entire net to erupt in cheers and jeers... the post has 100 comments and counting, not including the 1400 sarcastic sneers from Reddit...
The moral? Well, be honest about yourself, advertise yourself as you actually are... and when you meet jerks, let them be.
For men, I suppose the moral would be: don't be a jerk and treat everyone with respect.
For the rest of the net, the moral seems to be, other people's pain is our collective joy...!
